|Oil Sands Accommodations – a growing part of our business
Oil States, through its Canadian subsidiary PTI Group Inc., has a significant and growing presence in the oil sands region of northern Alberta, Canada. PTI provides remote site accommodations for the employees and contractors of major oil sands project operations. PTI’s large-scale lodge properties operating in Alberta’s oil sands are quickly becoming a significant part of their business, not only for the revenue they produce, but also for the positive reception they are receiving from both customers and industry alike.
From in-room amenities such as phone, internet access, and satellite TV, to the upscale finish and furnishings of the common-area facilities, these large-scale properties are rapidly gaining recognition for the quality of life they provide for our guests.
The recent successes of PTI Beaver River Executive Lodge (732 rooms) and PTI Athabasca Lodge (1,400 rooms) has created additional demand in the oil sands for our third lodge-style property, Wapasu Creek Lodge. The new lodge sits on nearly 80 acres of land northeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta, and about 45 kilometers east of its sister lodges. Wapasu is currently open and running with 650 rooms available. However, expansion plans call for approximately 850 more rooms by mid-year 2008.
The new lodge borrows design elements from both PTI Athabasca Lodge and PTI Beaver River Executive Lodge layouts. It offers private rooms with a shared washroom, but also executive-style management suites which are equivalent to what you might find in a 3-star hotel. The state-of-the-art facility also offers a variety of amenities, including leisure space with pool tables, a fully equipped fitness center, and a convenience store. And, of course, guests also have access to northern Alberta’s great outdoors. Among the other amenities that the lodge offers, a favorite among guests is the fully catered dining room.
